Which of the two do you use? Why?
Have you had any experiences (bad or good) with either type of collar?
Is it easier to control your dog on either type of collar?

I don't have much experience with a harness. I just always taught mine to lead with a collar. I usually start with a simple choke chain and once they learned basic obedience commands, went to a regular collar.

I don't use choke chains because I don't like them, but everyone has a different perspective about them. Harnesses stop pulling easier and doesn't hurt your pet, depending on how you put it on OR how you use it. Then, once they got over pulling, I'd probably switch over to a flat collar, but my Obedience Trainer makes her own collars and leashes that are just amazing, but I haven't ordered one yet.

![[image]](http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii310/dawnerz00/sepDOM1.jpg) I love to use smilies because they help let people know their real emotions. So, that's why I use so many of them in posts - in case you were wondering |

I use a harness with my male weimaraner because he pulls so bad without it. The female only has to have a collar. My black lab has to have a pinch collar because he can escape out of everything else...harness, collar etc. So I actually use a combination of all of them. Depending on the dog.

I use collars. I use chokers and reg collars.
For my pits I train them with chokers FOR me its easier to get n keep their attention. ONCE they get to where they can mind n do great i'll go to a reg collar.
The harness I will not own. My hubbys dog Nikki is 1/2 pit 1/2 lab she completely breaks any harness BUT have to use reg collars on her. She JUST completely snapped her choke chain so I wont be using those for her either.
I think with collars and harnesses JUST depends on how comfortable the person is with it and also what they think they have more comtrol over their dog with.
Me I feel as if I have more control over the dog(s) with a collar It completely controls the neck and head so you are easy to get away from something but the harness you have toget their body to move MOST dogs lock up when you go to move their body so I stick to the collars.

I use collars (choke and prong depending on the dog). I havent had but very little experience with a harness. So i cant really compare the two. But i did try it once with bruiser and for him it didn't seem to help although he never really pulled much to begin with...lol

When walking my dogs, they learn on the prong collar. I refuse for them to walk me and it's the only style that seems to get their attention as in whos in what role. One of four of my dogs are able to now use a flat collar (or casual collar as I call it). All of my dogs where casual collars unless they are being walked.
The only time I ever used harnessess was when I owned a pick up truck and lived in California. It is law there that one must secure their dogs when they are in the bed of the truck, so my two G.Shep/Rotts were harnessed and centered in the truck.
